April 11, 2011 – June 13, 2011: Bali, Indonesia
Ok, folks, for those of you who are still wondering in the back if your head, “where on earth IS Bali?” it’s time for a quick geography lesson!
First, Bali is one of over 17,000 islands that make up the country of Indonesia, in Southeast Asia. These islands, or archipelago (remember that one from the 3rd grade??), span from just below Malaysia across Australia, over to Papua New Guinea. I also just learned that Indonesia is ranked the 15th largest economy based on GDP.
To get a global frame of reference, you will see the globe, focusing on Asia here, with the country of Indonesia in green. I will shortly add a section dedicated to Bali where I will post a map of Bali and the various towns that I visit. Incidentally, if any blogger experts know of some sort of map applet that integrates with wordpress, I’d be delighted to hear about it!
